GSA was recognized as a top performer at the Innovation Award 2023:

The winners of the 20th MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award were announced on the evening of October 5. The expert jury had selected the most innovative and sustainable products and projects as finalists for this prestigious award. It is the only prize in the world to be awarded at the interface of design, technology and materials. The award ceremony took place during eMove360° Europe 2022 (October 5-7) at the Berlin Exhibition Center. The Gold Award in the Material category went to Gesenkschmiede Schneider GmbH for its lightweight steel and aluminum elements for vehicle construction.

For this project, the MCG 3-5 steel patented by “Gesenkschmiede Schneider GmbH” was used, which withstood all strength requirements on the engine test bench.
A further component of the research project was to establish the basis for an integrated development concept for new types of gas and diesel engine pistons for marine applications.
The following goals were achieved in the funding project:
– Mass reduction of the piston by up to 20%
– Component reduction due to a friction welding connection
– Friction welding combination of steel and cast materials
– Higher combustion temperatures (less Co2 emissions)
Inlet and outlet valves for the engine sector have been developed on the basis of a new type of titanium lightweight construction material, which brings drastic weight reductions while improving durability, wear and corrosion resistance. The weight reductions of approx. 40% result in new possibilities with regard to the design of the valve train. Emissions can be reduced, efficiency increased and resources saved.
